The Faculty Professional Development Center offers a variety of award and grant opportunities that facilitate professional development for faculty.
Awards and Grants
The FPDC Internal Annual Grant Program is generally intended to provide professional growth opportunities for individual
faculty (although joint and group projects are also welcome). Proposals can be submitted
for the following categories: Scholarly Growth, Teaching, and Service.
The FPDC Continuing Excellence Fund provides ongoing support for faculty who have
received previous support from the FPDC for projects repeated more than once. Download

The purpose of the fund is to promote research or scholarship that leads to publication
or otherwise makes an academic contribution to the university or to the academic discipline.

The Merit Award recognizes faculty who are currently engaged in exceptional research,
teaching, or grant-writing or faculty who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment
to service and service-learning or display exceptional uses of technology. Download

The FPDC Small Grant will award regular (tenured or tenure-track) faculty members
funds to provide support for research, service and service-learning, teaching and
advising activities, or use of technology in one of these areas at PennWest California

The FPDC Traveling Scholar Award will award regular (tenured or tenure-track) faculty
members funds to assist with traveling expenses to present at a conference, serve
in an official conference or organization capacity (e.g. conference planning committee
member, organization officer, etc.) at the conference he or she is attending. Download

The Vargo Award recognizes faculty who have served as a faculty member at PennWest
California for at least 10 years and have demonstrated outstanding achievement across
at least two of the three areas of teaching and learning, scholarly growth, and service
and service learning and significant achievement in at least one other of these three
