On May 10, 1933 research on gender and sexuality diversity from the Institute for Sexual Science was publicly burned along with other “un-German” books by the paramilitary Nazi group the “Sturmabteilung” or SA and university students in Berlin. According to the Holocaust Memorial Museum, approximately 20,000 book were burned on this date.
