Peer Mentor Coordinator (PMC) Work Description:
A Peer Mentor Coordinator (PMC) helps to support and facilitate peer mentoring relationships. Each PMC oversees around 30 mentoring relationships, maintains contact with their assigned mentors and protégés, and addresses unanswered questions. PMCs provide early awareness to professional staff of at-risk students by tracking their experiences throughout the first year at Cal U, and making referrals to campus resources, as needed.
PMCs are responsible for assisting faculty in one or two sections of First Year Seminar (FYS) by offering a student perspective and being a peer resource for new students. Additionally, PMCs assist in planning and executing events for mentor program participants. PMCs may be asked to assist the Office of Academic Success staff with initiatives, including, but not limited to Cal U Ready, Registration Blitz, and social media campaigns. Weekly meetings will prepare PMCs for FYS and upcoming events and tasks.
Note: There will be some weeks where you will not be able to work on coursework during your work hours. We need student-workers who are committed to the office and understand they often cannot do personal tasks during work time. The Fall semester is an especially busy time, requiring substantial attention to detail. The spring semester is more flexible than Fall.
Work schedules will be set days and times each week with the exception of when mentor trainings and other events require flexibility.
Once we make hiring decisions, we place those we are unable to hire on an alternate list. We will refer to that list, should any positions become available.
