This Graduate Assistant position will assist in all areas of virtual and on-campus New Student Orientations (NSO). The GA will serve as a link between admitted students, their parents/guests, and the campus community. The primary goal of the position is to assist with pre-event tasks and day-of-event operations. The GA will be formally employed by the Office of Academic Success, but will collaborate with a variety of Cal U staff members.  

 

Job responsibilities:

·        Greeting attendees

·        Assisting with check-in procedures

·        Directing students and families where needed

·        Answering attendees’ questions

·        Assisting with presentations as requested

·        Promoting the University in a positive and exciting manner

·        Answering phone calls and emails related to orientation before or after NSO events

·        Assisting with packaging and distributing orientation materials

·        Attending all training and meetings, unless excused in advance by a Supervisor.

 

Qualifications/skills:

·        Registered for 9 summer credits

·        Ability to work day time, evenings, and up to 4 Saturdays (scheduled with notice)

·        Excellent customer service and communication skills

·        Knowledge of Cal U programs and resources

·        Attention to detail

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·        Ability to problem solve

·        Ability to remain calm and collected with dissatisfied students or guests

·        Leadership skills

·        Computer skills (Zoom, D2L, TawkTo chat feature – training and direction provided)

·        Comfort with speaking to small or large groups

·        Ability to be on your feet for an extended period of time

·        Valid Driver’s License (preferred, but not required)
