MMVTA OFFERS FREE BUS SERVICES FOR STUDENTS

The Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority has announced several new or updated routes, including free bus service from the park-and-ride lot in Large, Pa., for students with valid CalCards.

HELP DESK CHANGES AIM TO IMPROVE SERVICE

UTech Services is expanding its services to make the department more effective in providing support and resolving problems. Help Desk hours are from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday; from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; and from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.

CAL U NAMED 'BEST IN NORTHEAST'

For the sixth consecutive year, The Princeton Review has named California University of Pennsylvania one of the best colleges and universities in the northeastern U.S. The education services company recognizes the University for 'state of the art' classrooms and a 'variety of majors.'

CAL U NAMED 'MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOL'

For the second consecutive year, "G.I. Jobs" magazine has named California University of Pennsylvania one of the nation's top Military Friendly Schools. Click "more" for additional information.

SEMESTER STARTS WITH SWEET TRADITION

For the fourth consecutive school year, more than 800 dozen cookies were distributed in the Natali Student Center by STAND, Students Taking a New Direction. The cookies were baked and donated by members of 17 area churches.

CONSTITUTION DAY PROGRAM SET FOR SEPT. 17

The Cal U community will mark Constitution Day with a panel discussion about "Civil Liberties at Time of War." The free event will be held Sept. 17 in the Performance Center of the Natali Student Center.

NEW CHIEF TO LEAD CAMPUS POLICE

Robert F. Downey, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, has been hired as the new director and chief of University Police. Downey, who comes to Cal U after two years at Slippery Rock University, begins his duties Aug. 16.

SOUTHPOINTE TRAFFIC DELAYS AUG. 30-SEPT. 5

The Mylan Golf Classic at the Southpointe Golf Club will begin on Mon., Aug. 30th and end Sun., Sept. 5th. Hundreds of spectators are projected to attend, which may cause traffic delays getting in and out of Cal U Southpointe Center.

NO THRU-TRAFFIC

Beginning March 1, there will be no thru-traffic on Third Street between Hickory and Gallagher Way. To reach Gallagher Hall from Third Street, drivers must make a RIGHT at the intersection with Hickory, continue to the stop sign at Hickory and Sixth, then turn LEFT and follow Sixth Street to Gallagher Hall.

HANDICAPPED, VISITOR PARKING

Handicapped access parking spaces are available on the main campus. All bus service between Roadman Park and main campus is handicapped accessible. Limited parking for visitors is available in the small lot beside Kara Alumni House.

DIRECTIONS TO ROADMAN PARK

From the Cal U entrance, follow Third Street to the traffic light at Wood. Turn left; continue uphill to the stop sign. Bear left slightly to continue on California Road (Route 88). Roadman Park is on your right. For parking, use the entrance just AFTER Adamson Stadium.

THIRD STREET CLOSED NEAR GALLAGHER

Third Street near Gallagher Hall is closed to traffic. To reach the River Lot, use the Hamer railroad crossing: Follow signs from Green Street to Second to Beazell, then take the Loop Road to the crossing.

RAIL CROSSING CLOSED AT THIRD STREET

The Third Street railroad crossing is permanently closed. To access the River Lot,  use the Beazelle Street Crossing or Hamer Crossing.

HAMER WAY CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION

Hamer Way is CLOSED from the Third St. intersection to the railroad crossing. The Hamer crossing to the River Lot will remain OPEN. Vehicles exiting the River Lot at the Hamer crossing must turn RIGHT. The Hamer Parking Lot is permanently closed.

EXIT RESTRICTED AT HAMER HALL

The exterior doors of Hamer Hall facing the construction site are designated as EMERGENCY EXITS ONLY. To enter and leave Hamer Hall, use doors facing Coover Hall.

RIVER LOT ADDITION OPEN

The addition to the River Lot is now OPEN, with the exception of some spaces at the far end. Lighting has been installed. The remaining spaces will be opened once the call boxes are in operation.
